Joel’s specialty areas include, but are not limited to:

Joel has been in private practice for several years and treats a diverse population comprised of adolescents and adults. He currently practices in both New York City and Eastchester, NY. Joel applies a multilayered approach in working with clients. He believes in tailoring the therapy according to the unique needs of the individual or couple.

Some of the therapeutic modalities that Joel incorporates include Self Psychology, Cognitive Behavior therapy, and Solution Focused therapy at his practices in New York City and Irvington, NY.

Although not wedded to the more traditional psychoanalytic schools of thought that were incorporated in his original training, Joel believes that unconscious processes do influence behavior and need to be brought to the “conscious level” in order to foster insight and more importantly, change. This can be done through both traditional verbal exploration as well as through the use of hypnotic and relaxation techniques.

Joel has found the use of hypnosis to be most helpful in dealing with anxiety, fears, phobias, weight loss and smoking cessation, among other treatment issues. Although Joel has a wealth of academic and clinical experiences he believes that his life experience and ability to foster a supportive, safe environment in his practices in New York City and Irvington, NY are some of the major keys in making therapy successful.

Joel is presently immersed in the professional and academic communities. He believes that his experience as a First Generation American from a working class background steeped him in the real world from a very young age and informs his ability to assist clients on multiple levels in his work as a therapist.

Joel has consulted with numerous Fortune 500 Companies. He has provided Crisis Intervention and Counseling Services as well as In-House Trainings at:

  • AOL/Time Warner (Formerly Time Inc.)
  • Mercedes Benz
